I bought an entire course on developing self-esteem, by a well known self development expert. Only a small part was devoted to re-framing. Re-framing, when used correctly, can be a very useful tool to have, in the realization of any goal.
Once a person has learned how to set proper goals, and gone through a crystallization of thought process to select the goals you require, in all the areas of life, (mental, physical, financial, family, spiritual and social) a lot can stand in the way, between you and your goals.
In my attainment of almost any goal, I found I had to learn some new skills, knowledge, drop old habits, or beliefs, or a combination of all. When you try to change old conditioning that has become ingrained, you encounter serious resistance from your mind. It can sometimes take a lot of pain, before you can convert yourself into new habits. (A friend of mine called it paying penalties - or school fees. That's a re-frame)
It made sense to me, to turn my resistance into a yearning. One way to do this is by re-framing; in other words, by giving an incident or applicable variable a new meaning. I also learned how to re-frame ordinary things that tend to crop up in life, and threaten to throw us off balance. We all know Murphy's first law. ''Whatever can go wrong will go wrong". But if you look at life's trials and tribulations as to what they really are, (an opportunity to grow) we can turn them into our advantage.
Some people believe that nothing in life happens randomly, and that everything has a purpose. What if they are correct? And everything that happens is to our ultimate benefit? And to our sell- growth? Weather that's true or not is irrelevant. But is that not a great way of re-framing things? I found that regardless of what happened, I could always find a positive cause for the result; and re-establish the passion for whatever goal I was distracted from.
If you look at a Judo student, working out at training sessions, they learn (among other thing) how to throw people from their feet to the ground. But to do that it takes a lot of practice to find their opponents pivot point where to grab them, where to exert pressure etc, to execute the throw. The reverse is what I'm talking about. If you can find your conscious minds pivot point, to throw it from unbalance, to a state of balance, you can then get to a safe place and re connect with your goal; because if something is important to you, nothing should stand in your way. I wish you every success.
